Room Makeover- Laundry Room

Room Makeover- Laundry Room

When we moved into the house, we had no clue what we were going to do with one of the rooms. It was too small for us to use as a bedroom, and somewhat oddly shaped due to the house being broken up into three apartments prior to our moving in (more on that in a later post). Matt and I ended up using this space as a walk-in-closet and storage for over a year and it mostly collected stuff– before we decided what to do with this room. When we first moved in, Matt thought that this would be...

A Snowy Morning at Scriba North Farm

Snowy Morning Blog Header

It finally feels like winter in Central New York. This past week we have seen nothing but snow here at Scriba North Farm. While it’s been cold and snowy, we’ve been hunkered down inside for the most part. Sunday morning, I bundled up and ventured out to admire nature and the beauty around me. One of my favorite things about winter is the way snow falls on trees. How it clings to and lines tree branches. The pine trees on the property were absolutely stunning in all of the snow. The way the green of the needles popped against the...

Happy New Year 2024 from Scriba North Farm!

Happy New Year 2024

2023 was a busy year for us here at Scriba North Farm.  Matt and I ended it in the best way possible. On December 30, 2023, we welcomed the newest member, our first son, to our family. Little guy couldn’t wait until 2024 to meet everyone. He’s absolutely perfect and we’re so excited to raise him here in our home and at the orchard. As for the new year, we have some cool projects we are really looking forward to sharing with you in 2024. 1. Room renovations and makeovers! In preparation for our son’s birth, we’ve given a couple of...

The History of Scriba North Farm- Part 1

The History of Scriba North Farm- Part 1

The home and original barn at Scriba North Farm was built in 1852 by John Donnelly, who lived here with his family and had an apple and pear orchard on the property.

When Matt and I closed and started to move into the house, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the previous owners left us a photograph of the Donnelly farm (our home) circa 1853.

Oct. 31- Nov. 1, 2023 -Autumn Views on the Farm

Winter is rapidly approaching here at Scriba North Farm, and we took the opportunity yesterday (10/31) to ready our home for the colder months. In the meantime, Matt was able to snap some magical pictures of autumn leaves and colors from our roof. The yellows, oranges, and reds were striking against the moody October sky. From up there, he could see all around the property, from the barn to the back field, and decided to take a break to take in the stunning views. We woke up this morning (November 1) to quite a different view outside our window. Overnight,...

Year 1- Starting The Orchard at Scriba North Farm- 2023

Year 1- Starting The Orchard at Scriba North Farm- 2023

Having an apple and fruit orchard has been a dream of ours for years now. One of the reasons we fell in love with this property was the land— we could finally plant our apple trees! What we didn’t yet know was that the original owners had an apple and pear orchard. And that some really old fruit trees were still on the property. In April of 2023, we purchased our first apple trees and planted them in the corner field, starting our orchard. These first six trees (Fuji, Yellow Delicious, and Harrelson apples) were soon joined by two Honey...

The Sign for Scriba North Farm- part 1

Scriba North Farm Sign

A couple of weeks ago, I (Amanda) got a message from my parents saying that they were going to stop by. Matt and I could have never imagined the gift they would give us. Growing up, I remember a beautiful Scriba North Farm sign out in front of the house sitting at the top of a tall pole, surrounded by lights. When we first saw the home, the sign was missing (although the pole and lights still remained). Matt and I were bummed, but thought it had just been lost to time. That was until my mom saw a post...
